Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine and Warthogs Shine at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine 50th Anniversary
The sports medicine world recently gathered in Colorado Springs at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Annual meeting. AOSSM celebrated its 50th anniversary at the historic Broadmoor Resort with picturesque mountains as a backdrop. There was a strong showing from Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine at the meeting. Dr. Jim Rosneck contributed his vast expertise as faculty for an instructional course lecture on hip pain in the athlete. Dr. Mark Schickendantz joined several other world-renown experts as faculty on an ICL discussing management of ulnar collateral ligament injuries. Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine was on the podium presenting papers on symptoms of post-traumatic osteoarthritis 10 years after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (Drs. Morgan Jones and Kurt Spindler) and patient acceptable symptom state (PASS) 10 years after ACL reconstruction. AOSSM past President Dr. John Bergfeld joined other AOSSM past presidents for a special 50th anniversary panel during the “Game changer session”. Dr. Lutul Farrow was named as a moderator for the meniscus session and was an author for a poster highlighting a multicenter study evaluating the effects of medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction on patellar height. Dr. Farrow was also named as Program Co-chair for the 2025 AOSSM Annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee and also was elected to serve on the Medical Publishing Board of Trustees as a member-at-large. The highlight for Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine and the Warthog Society was Dr. Kurt Spindler’s presidential address and passing of the presidential medallion. Dr. Spindler had a tremendous year as AOSSM President and ushered in the next 50 years of the AOSSM with an amazing speech outlining the importance of teams. After Dr. Spindler was introduced to the large crowd in attendance it is customary for the AOSSM president to be escorted down the center aisle by all of the living AOSSM past presidents. This moment was especially special as Past President Dr. John Bergfeld walked side by side with his former fellow and current partner, Dr. Spindler.
