STRAIGHT FROM THE WARTHOG'S MOUTH.

'My year in Cleveland was a formative time in my development as an academic Sports Medicine surgeon. Under the mentorship of the faculty, I learned to critically evaluate patients in the office as well as surgical technique in the OR. Additionally, my research development was enhanced by regular meetings with attending staff and the research support team. All the while, I learned the necessary sideline and training room skills to be a successful team physician. My fellowship experience was not just a one year commitment as I still seek advice from faculty with tough cases and collaborate on research endeavors. If I had to do it again, i would undoubtedly come back to the Clinic for my Sports Fellowship.'

'During my fellowshship year at the Cleveland Clinic I experienced sports medicine from a complete perspective. We had an awesome operative experience encompassing all aspects of sports medicine from pediatric and adult surgical sports medicine to shoulder/elbow and foot/ankle specific experiences. I felt comfortable in treating garden variety sports medicine to multiligamentous knee dislocations after graduating. . . .The faculty are accessible and supportive and they go from role models to true mentors to us once we go out on our own. The CCF Alumni network is second to none and makes everyone feel part of a growing family. Lastly, my co-fellows and I formed a special bond which will last us our entire orthopaedic careers.'

'What drew me to the Cleveland Clinic Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship was the strong relationship between the primary care attendings and the surgical attendings. There is a real respect amongst all the faculty that carries down to the fellows. We primary care fellows worked side by side with the surgical fellows in the clinic, on the side lines and in the OR. All the faculty were committed to the education of the primary care fellows. . . . . When I graduated, my clinical assessment skills and knowledge base were strong and I was well prepared for my career as a primary care sports medicine physician. . . . . .I graduated in 2004 and I can still call both the primary care attendings and surgical attendings as well as other CCF alumni when I have a difficult case. The CCF fellowship is second to none and I continue to recommend it strongly to residents looking for an exceptional education.'

'I am so grateful for the outstanding training I received in sports medicine during my fellowship year at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. I knew I was in the right place when I first heard “Attention to detail is the key to success”. Needless to say, I learned everything I needed to know about how to care for injured athletes and how be an excellent team physician. In addition, I learned other skills which have also been important in my professional life such as how to do clinically relevant sports medicine research, and how to lead a sports health care delivery team. Most importantly, I am very appreciative of the professional guidance that I continue to receive from my mentors at the clinic.'

'In my opinion there is nothing more powerful in the academic world than to create the presence in alumni doctors' clinical practice's that they are still practicing at the highly coveted institution where they once learned. The Cleveland Clinic was my home for 4 years, 3 Internal Medicine in my residency and 1 year of Primary Care Sports Medicine in my fellowship. I cherish, respect and highly regard my mentoring physicians and experiences. My practice, as well as my sports coverage, is merely the clinical practice techniques I learned and honed under excellent faculty at the Cleveland Clinic. The fellowship persists in an ongoing research meeting which cements the bond we all share together.'

'In reflecting back on my training and early career development, I find myself defined by a 12 month period in Cleveland, Ohio. . . .My time as an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic allowed me to become a better surgeon, teacher, and leader. I have had the privilege as serving as an NFL and NCAA team physician, a Residency Program Director for the Henry Ford Health System, and now as a Chief of Sports Medicine. All of this in just 10 years time is directly related to the faculty at CCF and their desire to produce the best Orthopaedic Sports Medicine surgeons and leaders in the country. The operative exposure, scholarly productivity, and team coverage provided in the program allowed me to be able to transition to academic practice seamlessly. The fellowship is not a spectator sport as it is at so many other training programs. The network created thru CCF is not a fleeting relationship. This is truly a group of physicians who care for each other and will do anything for the advancement of those they have trained. This is why, the Cleveland Clinic Sports Fellowship is the total package, and truly the best Sports Fellowship in the country. #Warthog4Life'
